Fishing To End Hunger Tournament 2024 - October 5, 2024
Last weekend, Gull Lake came alive with the early morning buzz of excitement as the Fishing To End Hunger Tournament 2024 kicked off at Bar Harbor Supper Club. This annual event, which raises funds for The Outreach Program of Brainerd Lakes, saw 114 boats line the channel, each ready to chase down the grand prize of $15,000 for reeling in the best catch of walleyes!
From the crack of dawn, the energy was revving. The Nisswa Fire Department lit up the boat landing and Bar Harbor, guiding the way for participants and volunteers. A dedicated group of volunteers, some arriving as early as 5:00 AM, helped with the smooth check-in of all boats. By 7:30 AM, the National Anthem filled the cool-windy morning air, setting the tone for an exhilarating day of fishing. With two waves of boats launching onto the waters—one at 8:00 AM and another shortly after—the tournament was officially underway.
If you’ve never experienced the Fishing to End Hunger Tournament, mark your calendars for next year! The 2025 event is already scheduled for October 4th, and registration opens on November 1st. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this exciting community event and the opportunity to win $15,000!
The Cause Behind the Tournament
The Fishing To End Hunger Contest started back in 2013 and has become a highly anticipated event in the Brainerd Lakes area. Hosted at the Bar Harbor Supper Club on Gull Lake, participants enjoy a pre-tournament registration and dinner event on the Friday night before the competition. On Saturday, boats launch onto the Gull Lake Chain in pursuit of that winning walleye.
But this tournament is about more than just fishing—it’s about making a difference. Proceeds from the event benefit The Outreach Program of Brainerd Lakes, a local organization that has been combating hunger since its founding in 2012. Outreach BLA packages and distributes 10 different meal types to soup kitchens, food shelves, community meal programs, shelters, churches, and other places in need. Around 80-90% of the meals packaged stay within Minnesota, while the remaining 10-20% are used for disaster relief or international efforts. The mission is clear: no child or adult should ever worry about where their next meal is coming from.
We are proud to support such a meaningful cause, and it was inspiring to see the community come together for a day of fun, fishing, and giving.
