We had an incredible time at the 14th Annual Gull Lake Classic Boat Show organized by the Land O’Lakes Classic Boat Club and hosted by the Bar Harbor Supper Club in Lake Shore, MN. This eagerly awaited event, held every August, never fails to amaze us. The show provides an exceptional opportunity for individuals of all ages to marvel at these remarkable classics. This year's highlight was the showcase of Gar Wood boats, commemorating a century of Gar Wood Boats' legacy. These magnificent vessels journeyed from various states, both far and near, to participate in the event, creating a captivating display of nautical history.
Situated at the Bar Harbor Supper Club, the event drew in hundreds of enthusiasts who lined the docks to admire these enduring marvels. Taking place on Saturday, August 26th, the event spanned from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Arriving around noon, we were immediately struck by the overwhelming turnout. The sight of so many people and a stunning array of classic wooden boats was truly impressive. While parking is available along the roadside, it's wise to anticipate a bit of walking, as this popular gathering attracts a substantial crowd annually.
Remarkably, this event welcomes spectators at no charge, making it an ideal family outing. The attractions are plentiful, catering to all interests. If hunger strikes, options abound; the patio offers a delightful dining experience (though be prepared for a potential wait), and for those seeking a quick bite, hamburgers are sizzling away in the tented area.
As you make your way toward the docks, a steady stream of attendees guide you along. Embrace the bustling crowd and go with the flow. Strolling along the docks reveals an impressive array of maritime marvels. The beauty of witnessing these meticulously restored wooden boats afloat in the water is truly captivating, transporting you to a bygone era. A particularly captivating sight was a boat owner who had an intricately crafted replica RC boat designed after his own vessel, a unique touch that added to the event's charm.
