Gull Lake Frozen Fore | 2023 Recap | #FrozenFore23

Updated: Apr 20, 2023

The Gull Lake Frozen Fore Weekend put on by Gull Lake Events happens every February in the Brainerd Lakes Area. It is a three-day event of everything winter! Our Camp Nisswa crew was out and about enjoying all the event had to offer!

Friday Night:

At the main tent on Gull Lake at Hole-in-the-Day Bay, the weekend started off with the polar plunge (fundraising event for local charities) followed by a huge tent party (heated) with food, drink, and live music by Todd Lyscio followed by The Southern Express Band! Make sure to check-in and grab your welcome bag filled with goodies & swag. You enter by driving out on to Gull Lake at the boat ramp on the East Side of Gull Lake. They have parking on the lake by the tent. Pro Tip – they put insulation and plywood on the ice inside of the tent, but your feet still get cold. Wear boots to keep your feet warm. Wear layers as it can get warm in the tent with the heaters running and everyone dancing.

Satur“Day”:

The main event starts! The theme of this year’s Frozen Fore was “Cartoon Weekend” and all the supporting bars in the area had some type of “golf” hole setup at their location. There are a variety of types of holes. Golf skill is not needed. You start at your designated hole (chosen when you buy your ticket). Our starting point (event starts at 10:00am) was at the main tent (Hole-in-the-Day Bay). Our crew “golfed” the hole and then proceeded to jump on the shuttle buses that ran clockwise this year. Pro Tip – The buses start running at 10:15 so get to your starting spot so you can complete their “golf” hole and get on the bus to get to the next stop. The shuttle buses are a great way to travel safely between the “holes” and they are also a great way to meet event participants.

Our next stops went as follows:

More Pro Tips:

  • Always get your scorecard signed and on your last hole(or at the main tent) make sure to turn in your scorecard for chances to win prizes on Sunday

  • Don’t spend too much time at one stop, you’ll want to get to all the holes

  • Most holes have prizes (hint-hint)

  • Dress Up!

  • Prepare for cold weather, it’s wintertime in Minnesota. You are in and out of the bus and the “golf” holes are outside

  • Wear winter boots!

  • Stay hydrated throughout the event, it is a long day 😊

  • Always thank your shuttle drivers, they are getting you around safely to the holes

  • There is a digital photo scavenger hunt for a chance to win tickets to next year’s Frozen Fore

Saturday Night:

After the golfing event has ended (6:00pm), head back to the main tent and prepare for another fun night. The night started off with live music by The Dad’s Band followed by Lipstick N’ Dynamite. At 10:00pm, we headed outside to watch a great fireworks display on the ice! Pro Tip – we tried to wrap up all our stops by @ 4 to have a bit of a break and held a chili cookoff to get some food to prepare for the evening tent party.

Sunday:

We headed back down to the main tent for the Food Fest (Part of the Frozen Fore package)! Come hungry! We walked around the tent grabbing samples from local restaurants and trying out a variety of dishes. Pro Tip – the food fest starts at 11:00 and you want to be there just a little early so you have time to try all the food samples. Don’t forget to vote for your favorite dish as this is a cook-off!

Door Prize winners have their prizes laid out at the entrance to the Food Fest. There are many door prizes for those who turn in their completed cards.

At noon the weekend party ends with the prizes for the Food Fest vendors.

The 2024 Frozen Fore will be February 23-25, 2024. Get it on your calendars so you don’t miss out.
