The Camp Nisswa team recently attended the Grand Opening and Pig Roast event at Northern Gifts and Sweets & The SPOT 371. This past summer, we had the pleasure of getting to know the hardworking owners, Tammy and Glen. While we were enjoying ice cream and pleasant conversations at their Nisswa location earlier in the season, Glen dropped a hint about exciting news: plans for a second store across from (BIR) Brainerd International Raceway, just off 371. The speed at which Glen brought the project to life in a mere two months was truly impressive, showcasing his unwavering dedication and hard work.

Here are some photos capturing the transformation process. (Photo Credits: The SPOT 371)

Grand Opening:

The Grand Opening (October 7, 2023) was a lively atmosphere, drawing in locals and visitors eager to explore the new space. Stepping into the store, we were greeted by Glen and Tammy with their heartwarming welcome and enthusiasm. They personally guided us through their curated collection and store. The stunning array of 1950s memorabilia, coupled with an impressive variety of merchandise, an expanded candy selection, left us in awe. If there's something you're looking for, chances are you'll find it here.

The store's offerings extended well beyond the tempting sweets, encompassing a delightful selection of locally crafted and Minnesota-made items, unique clothing attire, and an extensive assortment of Puzzletwist puzzles that would impress even the most dedicated puzzle enthusiasts.

To top it off, Northern Gifts and Sweets & The SPOT 371 is a one-stop shop for coffee, espresso, ice cream, soups, and sandwiches. Open seven days a week, they have something to satisfy everyone's cravings.

Whether you need a pick-me-up coffee, a hearty sandwich (be sure to check out their specials), or a sweet treat, Northern Gifts and Sweets & The SPOT 371 has you covered. Their large selection of 28 ice cream flavors is sure to hit the spot!

Pig Roast:

The highlight of the event, the much-anticipated pig roast, was a feast for the senses. Glen and his family had poured over 15 hours of dedication into preparing the delicious BBQ masterpiece in their meticulously tended smoker (Which is very cool and homemade!). As we indulged in the delicious food, we couldn't help but appreciate the warmth of the community spirit. The event's proceeds contributed generously to the noble cause of the Smiles for Jake Movement, a touching demonstration of Tammy and Glen's commitment to giving back to the community that supports them.

Future Plans:

While we were enjoying the delightful fall weather and scrumptious pulled pork, we spoke with Glen and he hinted at expanding the back lot, hinting at possible future events like outdoor movies & live music. Glen's plans for the new location seem promising, and we're excited to see what unfolds. (If you know Glen, you know he's always poised to conjure up something exceptional!)

Conclusion:

For those yet to make the journey, this hidden gem promises an experience that transcends age, offering something delightful for every visitor. Don't miss the chance to engage with the passionate owners, who can often be found personally attending to customers in both their Nisswa and 371 stores.
